ILLUSTRATOR Michelle Dorenkamp

Michelle Dorenkamp has been drawing since age three. She earned a BFA in Illustration and has since illustrated more than fifty children’s books. Her work is also featured monthly in National Wildlife’s Wild Animal Baby magazine. Michelle works from her home studio using traditional watercolors, pen and inks, markers and prismacolors as well as digital illustration. She resides in St. Louis, Missouri, and enjoys spending free time with her family, especially her granddaughter Katlyn.

ILLUSTRATOR Nancy Devard

Nancy Devard is a former engineer turned professional artist. After earning a Bachelor of Science from Temple University, and working as a Development Engineer, Ms. Devard finally decided to pursue her passion – fine art and illustration. Ms. Devard worked as staff artist for Hallmark Cards, creating bestselling original designs primarily for the Mahogany and Kids divisions. Today, as a freelance illustrator, she uses gesture and expression to tell stories, real or imaginary. "My thrill comes when I look work I've completed, feel a sense of satisfaction, and receive feedback from my clients that they are delighted with the results." The Secret Olivia Told Me is her first illustrated trade book. The Secret Olivia Told Me: winner of the 2008 Coretta Scott King Book Honor for illustration. ILLUSTRATOR Higgins Bond

HIGGINS BOND grew up in the East End of Little Rock, Arkansas, and her family's home was located opposite the levee of the Arkansas River. She started painting at age twelve but began considering art as a career only after starting as a psychology major and later changing to advertising design at Memphis College of Art.
A versatile artist, she has created a wealth of images ranging from book jackets, record albums, portraits of great kings and queens of Africa, and paintings of Jan Matzeliger and W.E.B. Dubois for the United States Postal Service Black Heritage Stamp Series. Much of her praised artwork is found in the collections of top national corporations. Among her published books for children include When I Was Little, written by Toyomi Igus and published by Just Us Books, Susie King Taylor, Destined to be Free, written by Denise Jordan, published by Just Us Books, Thurgood Marshall, Supreme Court Justice, Who Has a Belly Button?, Groundhog at Evergreen Road, I Am Sacajawea, I Am York: Our Journey West With Lewis and Clark and Then I Think of God.

ILLUSTRATOR Peter Ambush

A native of Frederick, Maryland, illustrator Peter Ambush attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in illustration and graphic design. He spent 11 years and completed more than 400 covers as an illustrator and graphic designer for the Star Ledger and its Scanner TV guide, and other sections of the New Jersey daily newspaper. Ambush now teaches airbrush at duCret School of Art in Plainfield, New Jersey and is self-employed as a freelance artist, and taking projects on commission. He lives in Stroudsburg, PA with his wife and daughter. One Million Men and Me is his first picture book.
