Call for Submissions: Multicultural Gems of 2015

Thank you fellow children's book creators, publishers, educators, and supporters of diversity in children's literature for helping us compile the “Multicultural Books to Make Your Season Bright” list. The response has been tremendous and is yet another reminder of how critical it is that we continue to create, publish, support and celebrate this important work.

Just Us Books is now working to compile a “Multicultural Gems of 2015” list and once again, we need your help. Our goal is for this list to become a resource that identifies and helps promote quality, multicultural books published from January 1 to December 31, 2015. This list will be shared with librarians, booksellers, literacy programs, book clubs, educators, parents and others in our literary and cultural communities.

Please start considering now titles you think should be on this list. We are asking that you submit a maximum of 3 multicultural children's books (from pre-K to y/a) published during the 2015 calendar year. Authors/illustrators: please limit your selections to just one of your own titles.

In your submission, please include:

  • book title
  • author
  • illustrator (if applicable)
  • publisher
  • pub. date
  • category (picture book, chapter book, y/a, etc.)
  • short book description or a few sentences about why you selected the book
  • your name and your role if you'd care to share (parent, educator, author, etc.)

Please submit your recommendations as an e-mail via Just Us Books' Facebook page by Jan. 11, 2016.
We know that our libraries, schools and homes need more quality children's books that reflect our diversity. But we also need to do more to make people aware of the many wonderful books that are already being published - and encourage everyone to buy them.

Thank you in advance for your submissions, your enthusiasm and your support.

Good books make a difference!
